HYDERABAD 2010Search for the Roots: (Sindh history in brief)
I was born in Hyderabad Sindh now part of Pakistan. From very young age I have thirst to know more about our family and my ancestors. I have compiled some articles which I will be uploading on the web.
The search started with the history of Sindh & Santan Dharam. The book “Return of the Aryans” helped me to focus on our culture and religion:
Sindh has a long history going back to more than 10,000 years. In order to learn about Sindhis, please read “Return of the Aryans” by Bhagwan Gidwani. Try to borrow the book from your local library. If not available, let me know and I will arrange to send you a copy. You can also visit following site and read reviews and articles about the book.
This is what Ram Jethmalani said at International SINDHI SAMMELAN, Florida, USA, August 1999: “Every Sindhi must read “Return of the Aryans” to understand their history, heritage and Roots…Not for yourself alone but for the sake of your children … for the coming generations¦. A pity it would be to deprive them of this knowledge. Beg or borrow this book, or better still buy it and gift it to those you loved ones, but do not make the mistake of depriving your youngsters of this treasure-house of knowledge about their Roots..

“The citizens of the Indus Valley civilisation, a permanent settlement that flourished between 2800 BC and 1800 BC, practiced agriculture, domesticated animals, used uniform weights and measures, made tools and weapons, and traded with other cities. Evidence of well planned streets, a drainage system and water supply reveals their knowledge of urban planning, which included the world’s first urban sanitation systems and the existence of a form of municipal government.[23” wiki
Sindh has been under Muslim rulers since seventh century A.D. Quote“ It was on the evening of Thursday the 16 June A.D. 712 that Mohammed Bin Qasim , was successful in conquering Sindh, after fifteen attempts by nine Khalifas over a period of seventy-four years (638-712 A.D.) the Arabs had conquered Sindh. It was one of the saddest days in Indian history. “Unquote: see Sindh Story by Prof. K.R .Malkani http://www.freesindh.org/sindhstory/Cover.html

Sindh remained under Muslim rule until 1843 when the British General Sir Charles James Napier defeated the Talpur Amir at Miani on 17th Feb. 1843. Within weeks, Charles Napier and his forces occupied Sindh. After 1853, the British divided Sindh into districts. In each district they recognized a wadera or Aristocrat. Sindh was made a part of the Bombay Presidency and the formation of a Hindu Aristocracy caused many businesses and even lands owned by Sindhi Muslims to be handed over to the minority Hindus leading the province into a severe economic depression, many impoverished Sindhi landowners had to take loans with high interest rates from Banias (Hindu money lenders from Bombay, India who flocked to Sindh) and due to these loans the Sindhi landowners lost their lands and their livelihoods.
In a highly controversial move, Sindh was later made part of British India’s Bombay Presidency—much to the surprise of the local population, who found the decision highly offensive. A powerful unrest followed, after which Twelve Martial Laws were imposed by the British authorities. Finally the decision was reversed by the British administration and SINDH became a separate province in 1935.
“When the British took over, the Hindus did not hold any land. The British gave land to the retiring officers, most of them Hindu. The wealthy began to buy lands at market price. The improvident Muslim landlords began to mortgage lands to the Hindu moneylenders, who gradually acquired the same on default. In one century of British rule, the Hindus had come to; acquire about 40 per cent of the land. Another 20 per cent was believed to have been mortgaged to them. ”
